The Syrian Orthodox Church in America has been accredited as a United Nations Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) by the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) for over twenty years. There are six United Nations Representatives: President, Main Representative, two Alternate Representatives and two Youth Representatives.

Representatives attend meetings principally on Thursdays at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The work of the NGO deals with issues of freedom of religion and belief globally; there is dialogue with all faiths and non-believers; other concerns of the NGO involve women’s issues, education, environment, second tract diplomacy, education and assisting the administration of DPI. Assistance is also given to the diplomatic Missions to the UN.

The work of the NGO is detailed in its quarterly newsletter, Holy Wisdom (click here).
